A Brief History of Nethermoss Archers
From the Big Bang to Black Holes! OK, so maybe Nethermoss didn’t need a major cosmological event to get up and running, but since the club’s founding in 1958 it’s been providing indoor and outdoor facilities and archery lessons to archers of all ages and experience, so anyone with the inclination can put black holes in the middle of target faces.
The club started as part of the Sports and Social Club of the English Electric Company on Dunnings Bridge Road, Netherton. The name, and the club’s crest, are derived from the Knight of Nether Moss whose grave is found in the grounds of Sefton Church.

When the Electric Company closed, Nethermoss moved to Bootle football ground and onto Maghull before joining up with Alan Dodson’s Aughton Youth Archers at, well, Aughton.
Unfortunately the club shed at Aughton was burnt down. With grants from the Sport Aid Council and Ormskirk Round Table, Nethermoss was able to purchase the club hut seen today at our outdoor venue of Scarisbrick Village Hall, just off the main road connecting Ormskirk and Southport. During the winter months we take up residence at Sporting Edge, Edge Hill University, Ormskirk.
From here the club hasn’t looked back, inspiring its members to local, national, international and even Olympic success.
Nethermoss Archers is a member of the Grand National Archery Society, the Northern Counties Archery Society and Lancashire Archery Association.
The wealth of experience within the club, together with a friendly and high spirited atmosphere, provides an ideal environment for people to take up archery as well as aspiring current archers to greater things. The sky is the limit…
